September 2019
First franchising contract now complete! Working with fire door installation companies outside our usual London / M25 corridor territories has seen our first franchising contract completed in Wiltshire. Working on behalf of TCi Construction at Porton Down, a variety of 30-minute and 60-minute fire-rated doors were installed from suppliers Forza and Integrated Door Sets. Another first for the company was the installation of steel fire-rated doors from Maxium Doors. Regardless of door-set manufacturer, Fire Door Experts are able to assist throughout a franchised project allowing BM Trada Record of Installation Activity Certification to be supplied post-install.
Two large supply and fit contracts for Kent schools
While the students were enjoying their summer break, Fire Door Experts were working hard on behalf of S.T. Construction installing fire door-sets, associated ironmongery and glazed screens in two schools in Kent. With such large projects, it’s vital that all parties work in harmony with each other. After discussing all aspects of the project with STC, Fire Door Experts broke the projects into Phases. Not only did this help keep the large scope of work on track, but also helped Humphrey & Stretton, the fire door manufacturer, manage their production in order to supply a constant stream of work through fire door “silly season”.
Ironmongery came via HAF International, who were also able to batch deliver as required. As each door-set and glazed screen was installed, Fire Door Experts’ technicians uploaded before, during and after photographs showing the work done, and the relevant Q-Mark number unique to that door-set. This is an extra service offered by Fire Door Experts to compliment the BM Trada Record of Installation Activity, providing further traceability that factory tested fire door-sets were installed inline with current regulations.

Fire Door surveys completed across 50 blocks of flats Working on behalf of UDL Estate Management, Fire Door Experts have now completed fire door surveys across 50 blocks of flats. As well as carrying out in-depth inspections of the fire doors in each property, FDE worked closely with UDL around access to the required doors. This has allowed us to efficiently compile our report outlining works required to maintain the existing fire doors back to their original intended purpose, with minimal disruption for the main contractor and end user alike. One Stop Doctors – A 5* Health Clinic in Hemel Hempstead BWC Ltd and Fire Door Experts have secured the doors fix and carpentry packages to One Stop Doctors, a new 5 Star doctor’s surgery in Hemel Hempstead. Working on behalf of Hutton Construction, whom we are their preferred fire door contractors, we will be installing 40 doors as part of the works schedule. The doors and frames are from BestofSteel, whom we are a preferred installer for. Ironmongery is being supplied by HAF, one of our long term dedicated supply chain partners. Works are due to commence in October 2019.
BWC & Fire Door Experts team still onsite 10 months later! Back in October 2018, we were contracted to supply and install 2 Assa Abloy Steel doors for a riser wall. Our technicians obviously demonstrated their expertise as fire door fitters and attention to detail as they we were quickly engaged to carry out further works. 10 months later, we are still working on behalf of Skanska and Network Rail for all enabling works for their HS2 project. This clearly demonstrates our quality of work, and the varied, high level skillset of our site teams. We have always been able to absorb whatever works that Skanska and Network Rail engage us with.
New fire door installations in Bournemouth. We recently won our first two fire door supply and installation contracts for Marisco South Limited. There are several other contracts in the pipeline for Marisco, a preferred contractor for Bournemouth Council. These projects are key developments in the growth of Fire Door Experts as we expand our geographical offering of our fire door capabilities.

Planned Preventative Maintenance service launched! Fire Door Experts are very pleased and excited to be launching our new Planned Preventative Maintenance service! This new exciting service provides our clients with regular, auditable records of fire door maintenance and inspection. As we’re sure you can imagine, Planned Preventative Maintenance has already generated quite a reaction amongst new and existing clients! The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 highlights the duties of a building’s “Responsible Person” and the “general fire precautions” that fall under their remit. An obvious measure within the Order to reduce the risk of the spread of fire on the premises is the correct specification and installation of fire doors. But in a busy building, how quickly can these measures fall below the required standard? Fire Door Experts can remove the stress and strain of the Order!!
Fire Stopping Surveys added to Fire Door Surveys for Ethos Facilities FDE continue to survey existing fire door assemblies to buildings belonging to a prestigious London estate. However, this work on behalf of Ethos Facilities sees Fire Door Experts adding a new avenue of work! On this project, we are combining our fire door expertise with fire stopping surveys, compartmentation and remedial works. As well as the good news of adding an extra string to our bow, this has greatly simplified the estate management process for Ethos as for all things passive fire protection related, they just call us!
Fire Doors successfully repaired and certified at care lodge Through an ongoing project with Regard Housing Group, Fire Door Experts have completed 74 fire door repairs on 29 doors at Ambleside Lodge, a care home for adults with special needs. FDE agreed a repair plan with the client following a site survey by one of our technicians. Required work included replacement of hinges, intumescent strips and the re-sizing of doors to maximise their efficiency in the event of a fire. Upon completion of the work, FDE were able to certify the repaired doors inline with the BM Trada Q-Mark Scheme. As we’re sure you can imagine, repairing 29 doors was significantly more cost effective for the client than replacing 29 doors! We would highly recommend property owners to consider a fire door maintenance plan to increase the life of the fire doors, and minimise potential future costs. FDE have completed a further survey for 19 does at Latymer House, with the findings reported to Regard.
Riser doors replaced at client’s convenience We are shortly starting procurement of replacement riser doors on behalf of TRC Contracts. This forms part of Phase III at a private school in West London. Works are scheduled for the summer recess. As with all projects in ‘live buildings’, FDE are working closely with our client to ensure the work does not affect the running of the school. With a multi-week recess on the horizon, everything is being scheduled into this window of opportunity.
HS2 Phase I nears completion BW Consultants Ltd is nearing completion of Phase 1 of the enabling works for HS2 at Euston on behalf of Skanska. Phase II is due to start during the summer, 2019.
Government high quality installation completed Fire Door Experts are proud to complete Phase II of a major ‘fit only’ contract of door sets by Integrated Doorset Solutions Limited. Work was carried out in a government building on behalf of Balfour Beatty. This project marks FDE’s further growth in high quality installations in key infrastructure. This is another example of the recognition of the high standards and levels of workmanship the company continue to work to.
Phase II set to commence Phase II for the maintenance of communal fire doors at a development in Feltham on behalf of UDL Estate Management is due to get underway by mid-June.

Major ‘First Step’ for Fire Door Experts In a ‘First Step’ for Fire Door Experts outside our traditional London base, a ‘franchised’ project started in late April at Porton Down, near Salisbury. Working for TCi (GB) Ltd (finalists in the National Building Awards 2019) this ‘fit only’ project for 28 door sets represents the way ahead for future work beyond the M25!
‘Fit only’ project – with fully certified outcome
In another ‘fit only’ project (on behalf of GPF Lewis Plc) Fire Door Experts are installing FD90 doors from Forza Doors in E1 central London. At the same time, FDE have been asked to install doors at another GPF Lewis Plc site in SW7.
Despite not supplying the doors or ironmongery, Fire Door Experts’ technicians are able to certify the doors to BM Trada Q-Mark standard to ensure maximum protection and product service life.
50+ Riser doors maintained Phase II Wick Lane for Living City Building Consultants. The second Phase project focused on the maintenance of 50+ riser doors in this modern residential block close to the London Stadium. The Phase completed at the end of April and marks the second project completed for LCBC.

Phase II of the work at Wick Lane in Stratford is all but completed on behalf of Living City Building Consultants . The work to the riser doors in the communal areas has rectified a number of faults that can arise in any building over time and where regular inspection and maintenance of fire doors is not carried out. Contact FDE for details of our new Planned Preventative Maintenance service, designed to maintain fire doors and ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Regulations 2005.
Major health care project Following on from December 2018’s start at Whittington Hospital (on behalf of UKSE Group) some 250+ fire doors are in production and scheduled to be installed over the late spring/early summer. This ‘fit only’ task represents another major project within the health care sector that Fire Door Experts is proud to be associated with.
Demand for ‘fit only’ grows Another ‘fit only’ project for a new client (GPF Lewis PLC) reflects the continually growing demand for this service that allows clients to achieve a full and proper accreditation for the manufacture, installation and ongoing maintenance of fire doors in a wide variety of settings. Our FDIS and Q-Mark accreditations are seen as the ‘gold standard’ and demand for surveying, maintaining and installing continues to grow.

Industry leading security Banham Security – Industry leaders in insurance-approved Police Preferred Specification high security locks and access equipment. Fire Door Experts have been asked to maintain and replace a number of fire doors at several sites across London.
Preferred ‘fit only’ project PMP Construction Ltd., – A ‘fit only’ project involving the installation of 25+ Gerda doors. Gerda is a leading British doorset manufacturer specialising in the social housing sector. Their multi-performance fire doorsets are extensively tested at UKAS accredited test houses and third party certified, building regulation compliant and offer proven performance Fire Door Experts are proud to be a preferred Gerda installer.
Fire Door Survey Across 100+ Buildings ETHOS – On behalf of a large London ‘estate’, Fire Door Experts has started a fire door survey on approximately 100+ buildings across central London involving thousands of doors. The project is expected to lead to the repair or replacement of 100’s of fire doors, some in highly prestigious ‘listed’ buildings.
TCi (GB) Ltd – Another ‘fit only’ project involving 13 doors at a research facility in Wiltshire. Despite being outside Fire Door Experts normal area of operation, it is a mark of the high regard in which FDE is held that we won the contract! Our ongoing work with the Regard Group has meant surveying and reporting on specialist housing units across Greater London with the resulting works creating ongoing work for some time to come! In association with Forest Gate Construction and Murphy Philipps Associates, Fire Door Experts is installing fire-rated final exit steel door sets (with over panels) at a large North London hospital.
Luton Airport As part of a long standing and ongoing relationship with Gilmartins, Fire Door Experts recently installed more fire-rated steel door sets at Luton Airport.
HS2 Euston Station In addition to all this, our contract at Euston Station on behalf of Skanska is progressing to target. We continue to work with Skanska to assist in delivering the station modifications in preparation for HS2.
With new enquiries continuing to come in at a steady rate, the need for quality services in all aspects of fire door survey, maintenance and installation remains strong and Fire Door Experts is continually developing new approaches to this increasingly important area of Health & Safety. January 2019 Following the briefest of Christmas & New Year breaks, 2019 gets off to a great start with Fire Door Experts Limited completing the fire door maintenance of circa 1,000 doors on behalf of a facilities manager at a project in the heart of the City of London. The majority of the works being carried out ‘out of hours’ and overnight. Fire Door Experts Ltd is particularly proud to have started the first project to maintain fire doors on behalf of The Regard Group. Our first project involves the fire door maintenance of doors to a care home in Surrey and we look forward to developing a close working relationship with Regard in 2019 and beyond. In a similar vein and continuing Fire Door Experts Ltd long involvement in fire door maintenance within NHS sites, an invitation to tender for the maintenance of fire doors to 17 NHS properties managed by G4S UK.
As part of a link with the highly respected security firm Banham Security , Fire Door Experts Limited win their first tender for a fire door installation project, scheduled for mid-February 2019, with door-sets from the highly regarded manufacturer, Enfield Doors.
Completion of a 2 phase project in conjunction with Butler Hayden Associates and A Wilson & Sons Ltd at two sites forming part of the prestigious ‘More London’ development between London and Tower bridges, on behalf of Broadgate Estates. Fire Door Experts Ltd is proud to have completed the project on time and within budget. Both phases involved the supply and installation of new fire door-sets, and the maintenance of existing timber and steel door sets.
On top of an already busy January, Fire Door Experts Limited made a start on the fire door surveys of circa 220 buildings in Central London on behalf of Ethos Facilities.
December 2018 Following a busy start to the cold autumn, Fire Door Experts Limited, a certified fire door installer, completed the supply and installation of a new 4 hour fire rated steel door set at Whittington Hospital on behalf of UKSE. This completes the first phase of a 3 phase project. The second and third phases involve the installation of new (and maintenance of existing) FD30 and FD60 fire doors throughout the hospital, a project involving over 250 fire doors!
One of Fire Door Experts Ltd largest residential projects (on behalf of Living City Building Consultants) was started (and Phase 1 completed) at Wick Lane, East London. Again, a 3 phase project with Phase 1 focusing on the maintenance and repair of the FD30 communal & hallway doors, with the replacement of a number of FD60 stairwell doors and Phases 2 & 3 dealing with the ‘Riser’ and basement doors.
Continuing the work of a number of years at one of the world’s busiest airports, Fire Door Experts Limited completed the supply and installation of veneer fire door sets with over panels at Cathay Pacific in Heathrow, on behalf of AQCSL.
Following a coincidental meeting at a client’s premises, Fire Door Experts Limited is now a preferred contractor to install high end fire door-sets on behalf of Impregnable Security Doors.
Also in December, Fire Door Experts Limited are invited to tender for the fire door maintenance works at the British Museum, on behalf of Elmwood Projects.
Again reflecting a long term association, Fire Door Experts Limited commence work at Euston Station on behalf of Skanska for the works required by Network Rail in preparation for HS2. In combination with our sister company BWC, FDE and BWC will be combining resources to work with Skanska for the station enablement to include new Assa Abloy fire door supply and installations, new fire rated partition walls and minor strip outs.
November 2018 Through IFSEC Global, Fire Door Safety Week have recently published a handy guide to checking whether your fire doors are compliant and fit for purpose, with an interactive visualisation of what an effective fire door needs to comply with relevant standards and regulations.
Fire Door Experts recently complete Phase II for the supply and installation of FD30s and FD60s single action and double action fire door sets to a private school in South Kensington, on behalf of TRC Contracts. The double action swing through doors were installed with Yeomans Shield face and intumescent door edge protection. Commenting on the project, Simon Whiting Commercial Manager for TRC Contracts said: “We have recently completed an £900,000 refurbishment project at a school in a prestigious area of London. July 2018 Fire Door Experts win prestigious contract to supply and install high end fire doors and bespoke ironmongery for a BOSS showroom in London on behalf of AQCSL.
The sizzling summer continues and our work schedule remains similarly hot! During July, among many existing projects for fire door maintenance and fire door installation, 2 were started at London schools (100 new fire doors in total) with one so impressed they’ve asked for 27 additional fire doors to be replaced!
Currently out to tender are quotes for fire door maintenance at a high security building in London and 500 fire doors for a leading NHS Trust.
New enquiries continue to come in from both corporate and private residential clients, for a certified fire door installer to quote for both fire door maintenance and installation, leading to a forward plan for business well into the autumn.
In June FDE welcomed a new member to the team – Paul Dredge. Paul takes on the role of Commercial Manager and will be manning the office to help co-ordinate the number of stages involved in dealing with the rapidly increasing client base. Paul has an extensive background in Property Management and administration and we’re delighted to welcome him to the team.
January 2018 Interesting article on the ASFP website regarding Dame Judith Hackitt’s report highlighting several shortcomings in Building Regulations Approved Document B with regards to fire safety in buildings. The report was commissioned in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster and amongst Dame Judith’s findings, the Document “encourages cost-cutting’ and is “not fit for purpose”. Dame Judith further states “the integrity and efficacy of products and systems is highly dependent on correct installation by competent and knowledgeable persons”.
